COURT HOUSE – It’s time to think elections, first June then November. An early reminder arrived in mailboxes last week for voters who choose to use mail-in ballots; they received a ballot for the June 3 primary election.
Republicans have a field of four vying for the U.S. Senate nod: Jeff Bell, Brian D. Goldberg, “Employment not entitlement,” Richard J. Pezzullo, “Cape May County Conservative Republicans” and Murray Sabrin, “Conservative Republican.”
For the House of Representatives, Frank A. LoBiondo, the incumbent, “Cape May County Regular Republican Organization” is being challenged by Mike Assad, “Cape May County Conservative Republicans.”
On the county level, there are no contests for Sheriff, Gary G. Schaffer, Freeholders Kristine Gabor and Will Morey, all running with the backing of the local Republican Organization.
Democrats have a smaller selection. For U.S. Senate Cory Booker, “Cape May County Regular Democratic Organization.”
House of Representatives, William J. Hughes, Jr., “Cape May County Regular Democratic Organization” and David H. Cole, “Independent Democrat for a Fresh Start.”
Local offices are also on the ballot.
According to the County Clerk’s election website, as of March 11, there were 26,719 Republicans, 13,667 Democrats and 27,463 “other.” Voters registered, a total of 67,849.
Unaffiliated voters may vote in either Republican or Democratic primary, but they are then considered to be affiliated with that party. Only one party ballot is to be voted in the primary election.
