Lower Township Democrats Have No Candidates for Council Primary

By Jack Fichter

VILLAS- Lower Township Democratic Party Leader Harvey Roach announced Thursday April 8 the organization does not have a slate of candidates for the Democratic nomination for council in Lower Township at this point.
“These are difficult times to serve as a an elected official,” he said. “Despite our best efforts, we have not been able to find qualified individuals to run for council.”
“People are working hard and doing the best they can for their families,” Roach continued. “We hope that people will come forward. We can write their names in at the primary in June.”
He said while the party was disappointed, he hoped the situation would prompt people to come forward, show an interest in serving in the community and become active in the party.
Roach asked anyone interested in running in running as a Democrat contact him at (609) 335-0285.
The deadline for candidates to provide signatures on a petition to run for council in the township is Monday April 12 at 4 p.m.
He said he was disappointed with the situation but Democrats would push on optimistically and hope interest can be generated in write-in candidates in the primary.
Lower Township Council’s lone Democrat, Wayne Mazurek, representing Ward Two, is not seeking reelection.
