CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – Middle Township Republican Township Committee Candidate Dan Lockwood pledged that if reelected he promises to serve a full three-year term, working hard for the people of Middle Township. Lockwood called on his opponent, Democrat Michael Clark, to make the same promise to the voters.
Rumors continue to swirl that if he wins reelection in Middle Township, Democrat Mike Clark will use the victory as a steppingstone to seek a seat on the Cape May County Freeholder Board. As evidenced by his press clippings and Facebook page, Clark has spent much of his time as Mayor attending political functions and events outside of Middle Township, often being led from event to event by Democrat State Senator Jeff Van Drew. This has led many political observers to speculate that Clark sees his reelection in Middle not as a commitment to three more years of service, but as a springboard to higher office.
“Looking at Mike Clark’s performance as our Mayor, it is clear he has no long-term vision for a better Middle Township. It has been a year of moving from one crisis to the next in Town Hall. Clark has lacked focus and energy and has no real plan for the future,” said former Mayor Lockwood. “Perhaps that is because Mike Clark doesn’t plan on being here long-term. I think he is shortchanging his commitment to the people of Middle Township in favor of his personal political advancement.”
Lockwood, who spent six years on Township Committee from 2010-2015, says he has only one political goal: to serve the good people of Middle Township. He pledged that if elected, he would focus solely on his hometown, as he has always done.
“I’ve been approached about seeking higher office in the past,” Lockwood said. “I quickly rejected the idea. I have no higher aspirations than working hard to make Middle Township the best it can be. I know Committeeman Tim Donohue feels the same. That’s why we worked so hard to build a great team in Town Hall and hire an administrator with the skills, vision and a passion to commit to a long-term plan to improve the quality of life in our town. Sadly, under Mayor Clark, we see much of this good work being undone, great employees leaving our town and our momentum for positive change stalling out. We need to restore real leadership, with a full-time, long-term commitment to excellence. That’s why I’m pledging to serve my full three-year term working hard for you. Will Mike Clark make the same promise and commitment?”
Middle voters deserve an honest answer from the Mayor.
