COURT HOUSE — The Cape May County League of Women Voters will host two candidate forums this month, one for the State Senate and Assembly offices, First District, and one for the Board of Chosen Freeholders of Cape May County.
The candidates for State Senator, Nicholas Asselta (Republican) and Jeff Van Drew (Democrat) will face off on Oct. 22, beginning at 7 p.m.
Due to the great interest in this race and to accommodate expected large turnout, the venue will be held at the Middle Township Performing Arts Center, located next to the Middle Township High School, 1 Penkethman Way, located off Exit 10-B of the Garden State Parkway.
The debate for the candidates for General Assembly, the Democratic ticket of Nelson Albano and Matthew Milam and the Republican ticket of R. Norris Clark, Jr. and Michael Donohue will follow at approximately 8 p.m.
There will be no questions taken from the audience that evening, but the public may send questions for consideration to leecor@comcast.net. Questions need to be received no later than Oct. 19.
On Oct. 29, the forum for the candidates for the Board of Chosen Freeholders will be held at the Old Historic Court House Building, Main Street, Court House.
The Democratic ticket includes newcomer Steven Bacher, from Court House, and Robert Jackson, former West Cape May mayor. The Republican ticket includes the incumbents, Gerald Thornton and Ralph Bakley Sr.
At this event, questions will be taken from the audience or may be submitted for consideration to leecor@comcast.net. Questions need to be received no later than Oct. 26. At this time, this is the only forum in which all candidates have agreed to attend.
“This year’s race for State Senate and Assembly in the First District is one of the most highly watched ones throughout New Jersey”, says Mary Conley, president of the Cape May County League.
“And the freeholder forum is the only one where the four candidates are all going to be present to answer questions taken directly from the public.” Conley urged all interested citizens to mark these two dates on their calendar.
