GOP Selects McCann as Donohue’s Assembly Running Mate

By Herald Staff

PRESS RELEASE FROM DONOHUE-MCCANN:
OCEAN CITY — The Republican county committee members of the First Legislative District, meeting last night at the Old Historic County Court House in Middle Township, selected by acclamation Ocean City business and civic leader John McCann to join GOP First District nominee Mike Donohue as the GOP ticket for the State Assembly.
McCann replaced former GOP First District Assembly nominee Frank Conrad, who withdrew from the contest last week.
“John McCann is a born leader,” said Donohue, “just the kind of guy the First District needs in Trenton. In this time of crisis, we need conservative leaders who will look you in the eye and let you know exactly where they stand – leaders you can count on to be true to their guiding principles, not the political needs of the moment. In John McCann, the voters of the First District will know they’ve got a strong leader who will make decisions on the basis of what’s best for the residents of the First District, not what’s best for his party bosses.
“I am not one for long speeches,” McCann said as he spoke to those assembled. “For many years I have been sitting where you are sitting listening to politicians give the same long speeches. This is about getting to work to win this campaign. This is about Mike Donohue and John McCann being out there, standing on our own two feet, speaking in our own voice about how we are going to take back this state from the people who have done such a horrible job running it. I can’t wait to get out there on the trail with Mike Donohue. Great things are happening for this campaign.”
After the convention, over one hundred supporters gathered upstairs at the nearby Bellevue Tavern to congratulate McCann and officially launch the Donohue-McCann ticket.
“I know there is a lot of hard work to be done,” McCann said. “And we will do it. I know that with the help of everyone in this room, we can stand up to the Corzine Democrats and start to turn this state around. This demonstration of how we have come together to move this campaign forward shows that we are united and ready to win this race. We need to concentrate on supporting and creating small businesses. The small business is the economic engine of South Jersey and those businesses have been hurt by the Corzine Democrats. We need to elect people who are committed to providing incentives to small business to create jobs and grow our economy.”
