GOP Candidates Criticize Van Drew Votes

By Press Release

First District Senate Candidate Dave DeWeese and his Assembly running mates Sam Fiocchi & Suzanne Walters issued the following statement after learning that earlier today Jeff Van Drew completed a series of votes to override Governor Christie’s Line Item Vetoes and add $1B in unconstitutional spending back into the state budget:
“Earlier today, Jeff Van Drew voted in lockstep with his fellow Trenton Democrats, attempting to add one billion dollars in new spending to the state budget.
Van Drew and the Democrats just don’t get it. This tax and spend mentality is what got this state into financial trouble in the first place.
During the McGreevey/Corzine eras, the Trenton Democrats nearly bankrupted the state with out-of-control spending. This spending forced Governor Christie and the Republicans in the legislature to require the Democrats to accept hard fought reforms. However, Van Drew and the old guard still want to impose more state spending on the taxpayers of South Jersey.
Jeff Van Drew proved today that he supports his fellow Democrats who are attempting to turn back the clock and stop the necessary reforms which are needed to get New Jersey on the right track. The Democrats’ votes for higher spending, higher corporate and personal taxes and more regulation on businesses will simply lead to higher unemployment and a larger burden being placed on the taxpayers. We need to put a stop to this mentality.”
