NORTH WILDWOOD — On Tues., Nov. 2, voters in this city’s 1st Ward will have to choose one of four candidates — a Democrat and three Republicans — vying for a seat on the seven-member City Council.
Independent Republican Incumbent Robert Maschio is being challenged by Republican Margaret Bishop, Independent Republican Barbara Auty and Democrat George Hallet.
Maschio, a local radio station owner, is seeking his third term on the governing body. He is running on a platform of “leading by example,” calling on council members to give up their health benefits. He is positioned in Column 4 on the ballot.
Bishop, who served a term on City Council in the 1990s, is being supported by the city’s Republican organization. Her husband’s family owned Bishop’s High Steps, now the Anglesea Pub, for many years. Her name is located in Column 1.
Auty is a retired teacher who wants to get involved and bring her experience as an educator and grant writer to city government because “democracy is not a spectator sport.” Voters will find her name in Column 3.
Hallet is a former law enforcement officer who unsuccessfully ran for county Sheriff in 2008. He is running “to bring a fresh outlook and to offer the voters a real choice.” He vows to “cut out all nepotism and cronyism.” Hallet can be found in Column 2.
