Fiocchi Insults Mom of Purple Heart Hero

Cape May Court House — Earlier this week, Dolores “Cookie” Wolf answered a knock on her door to meet Assembly candidate Sam Fiocchi.
Ms. Wolf thanked him for stopping by and explained that her son was Assemblyman Bob Andrzejczak, and that he was going to be getting her vote.
Fiocchi’s response: “That’s nice. He’s gonna lose.”
“Sam Fiocchi’s response told me more about his character than anything else,” said Wolf, who spent two months at the bedside of her son while he was recuperating from devastating injuries he received in Iraq. “I would never go to someone’s mother and insult them like that. What’s wrong with a simple, ‘thank you,’ and leaving? The spitefulness in that one statement says exactly what kind of person Sam Fiocchi is.”
Assemblyman Andrzejczak was gravely wounded during his second combat tour in Iraq in 2009 when the caravan he was riding in was attacked by a grenade-throwing insurgent. Andrzejczak’s left leg was destroyed by the blast — and ultimately amputated — but he still made sure to unharness himself from the personnel carrier and check on his comrades. While in transit for emergency medical treatment, his heart stopped and he had to be revived.
For his bravery, Andrzejczak was awarded both the Purple Heart and Bronze Star with Valor. He spent two months recuperating at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC, learning to walk again with his mother by his side every day.
“From watching Bob learn to walk again and seeing the countless brave young men around him trying to regain their skills, I learned then and there the difference between courage and cowardice,” said Wolf. “Courage is pushing through a tough test with grace, humility and dignity. Sam Fiocchi stood out last night as the true definition of a coward.”
