Ethics Committee Declines To Find Fault Against Albano

By Sponsored Content

A state ethics panel has yet to take any action regarding its look into a 2012 traffic stop involving Assemblyman Nelson Albano.
In a procedural hearing last week, the Joint Commission on Legislative Ethics took no action against Albano, instead voting to agree that it has jurisdiction over the matter and to look into it further, postponing any action to a future date.
Albano is the latest in a long list of lawmakers to have their cases taken up by the ethics panel on such procedural grounds. That group includes former Atlantic County Republican Senator Bill Gormley, as well as current senators Diane Allen (R-Burlington) and Kip Bateman (R-Somerset), and current Assembly members John Amodeo (R-Atlantic) and Mary Pat Angelini (R-Monmouth). Former Atlantic County Republican Assemblyman Vince Polistina also faced a similar hearing in 2010.
In each of the prior ten cases, even though the commission voted to accept its jurisdictional responsibility, the complaints were all ultimately dismissed.
We are extremely pleased that the committee declined to find any wrongdoing on behalf of Nelson. Just like past political complaints filed against area Republicans, which the committee reviewed and later dismissed, we expect the same exact outcome here. It is time to move on and the Adelizzi-Schmidt team should be embarrassed by their negative campaign.
The committee has not yet set a date for any future consideration of the matter.
