Donohue Responds to Sturm’s Mudslinging

CREST HAVEN – Republican Township Committee Candidate Tim Donohue issued the following statement in response to the latest Democratic candidate’s swipe at Donohue’s candidacy. Donohue spoke today, as the third Democrat candidate of 2011 season was unveiled.
So, as Steve Barry locates and advances the third Democratic candidate to enter the race this year, his new guy, Billy Sturm has nothing to say and all we get is a false, personal attack by Barry on me.
The voters are smarter than that, as they demonstrated in 2009 when they refused to re-elect Barry. It is unfortunate that this is how Billy Sturm enters the race, throwing mud. Voters are tired of the politics of personal destruction.
How do I know this? Because while Steve Barry and his friends have been fighting for months over who should be their candidate, I have been going door-to-door speaking to the people of Middle Township. Voters are telling me that they want a candidate who is for them, not just one that trashes his opponent. They are telling me that they want someone who will listen and be approachable. Not someone who is the latest patsy for entrenched interests. They are telling me to stop the Township from continuing to raise taxes year after year after year.
That’s what this race is about, not Billy Sturm getting down in the mud to help Steve Barry position himself for a political comeback.
Let me say this to my opponents Billy Sturm and Steven Russell, I’m ready to run a clean campaign focused on the issues the voters care about. Yet, rest assured that if your hatchet men like Barry and others think they can throw mud with no consequences, they are sadly mistaken.
For now, I’ve got my walk list and I’m headed back out on the street to talk to the people of Middle Township about how to lower property taxes.
