DeWeese Closes in on Van Drew

By Press Release

WILDWOOD – Poll results from a late October public poll released today by the Hughes Center of Stockton College show incumbent Democrat state Senator Jeff Van Drew has slipped ten points since May and Republican challenger Dave DeWeese has gained 19 points in the same timeframe. This 29 point swing puts Van Drew under the 50% threshold for the first time. The poll in May showed Van Drew leading DeWeese 59% to 11%. In September, the poll showed Van Drew leading 56% to 23%. The October poll has Van Drew slipping below the critical 50% mark at 49% with DeWeese’s numbers continuing to rise at 30.5%.
“This poll shows that Jeff Van Drew’s tactic of spreading false allegations and dumping hundreds of thousands of dollars of mud on First District voters in not working,” said Dave DeWeese. “Voters are ready for change, Republicans are coming home and many Democrats and Unaffiliated voters have obviously had it with the incumbent. We have broken through the Van Drew facade and revealed him as a McGreevey-Corzine Trenton insider who has voted over 35 times to raise taxes and fees by $3 billion.”
DeWeese continued, “We are going to close very strong. We have hundreds of volunteers on the streets and we continue to educate voters about the gutter campaign that Van Drew is running. Voters want new faces and voices in Trenton and they can only get that from DeWeese, Fiocchi and Walters. This poll today shows that we have closed the gap on Van Drew and we are poised to make history on Nov. 8.”
