NORTH WILDWOOD — A retired law enforcement officer who served in several local and federal agencies is running as the Democratic candidate for a council seat representing this city’s 1st Ward.
George Hallet, 63, of 1st Avenue, is running for city council “to bring a fresh outlook and to offer the voters a real choice.”
“The city council has abandoned the solid conservatism and sense of fairness we came to expect,” he said.
He claims that in the current council, “nepotism and cronyism” are rampant.
“I will cut out all nepotism and cronyism in hiring and will pledge not to put one relative on the city payroll,” Hallet stated.
As examples, he cited a land deal between the city and a council member and council’s approval of a $30,000 a year job for a councilman’s son.
“I will return integrity and fairness to city council and will do what’s right for the city and it’s taxpayers, not the selected few,” he stated. “During these difficult times, people want restraint and accountability from the city council, not conflict and arrogance. I’m running to be their vote.”
He also pledged to refuse medical coverage and propose its end for part-time council members.
“My third pledge is to not to vote for any new taxes,” Hallet said.
A North Wildwood resident since 1963, Hallet attended Northeast Catholic High School in Philadelphia, Atlantic Community College (now Atlantic Cape) and American University in Washington. He also served in the U.S. Army.
Hallet served in law enforcement for over 30 years.
According to his bio, Hallet worked for the North Wildwood Police Department as a summer officer, the Central Intelligence Agency, the U.S. Secret Service, the Inspector General’s Office and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office. Hallet was unsuccessful in an election run in 2008 for county Sheriff.
Hallett belongs to the following organizations: Elks, VFW, Moose, Knights of Columbus, Emerald Society, the Disabled Vets, and the Friends of the Hereford Lighthouse. He and his wife Marilyn have two grown children and one grandson.
Cape May – The number one reason I didn’t vote for Donald Trump was January 6th and I found it incredibly sad that so many Americans turned their back on what happened that day when voting. I respect that the…
