COURT HOUSE — Middle Township Mayor and Township Committee candidate Susan Atkinson DeLanzo is challenging her opponent Mike Voll to give up his township-paid health benefits which are costing taxpayers $1,481.97 per month which is $17,783.64 per year.
In a release, DeLanzo stated, Voll has been receiving taxpayer paid health benefits since 1982. “I sincerely believe that benefits should be reserved for full time employees, not part time officials” DeLanzo stated. “I know it is his legal right to takes these benefits, but last year Township Committee members eliminated health benefits for Township Committee members who serve part time. Many municipalities throughout New Jersey have done the same in order to save taxpayer dollars during these difficult financial times”
It is important for governing bodies to lead by example in a declining economy where everyone is hard pressed to balance their own budget.”
DeLanzo and Township Committee voted unanimously to eliminate health benefits last year. DeLanzo stated “I understand it was my legal right to take these benefits but seeing that we were in the midst of the worst recession since the Great Depression I felt it was the right thing to do to save taxpayer dollars, avoid layoffs and spare needed programs.”
“I said when I came into office that I would serve with no political agenda and do what was right for the citizens of Middle Township. It is time for Mike Voll to do what is right and stop receiving taxpayer funded life time health benefits for his part time service which already have cost the citizens of Middle Township hundreds of thousands of dollars,” DeLanzo concluded.
