WILDWOOD — Cape May County Republican committee people, at their first-ever convention in Wildwoods Convention Center Wed., March 9, selected Wildwood businessman Will Morey and Upper Township Committeewoman Kristine Gabor as freeholder candidates for the June primary election.
Morey garnered 122 votes, Gabor received 102. Those votes were recorded in four electronic voting machines, a historic event for the local GOP, which never used secret voting in prior years.
Other contenders were Stig Blomkvest, 90, and John “Jay” Young, 11 votes.
No vote could be taken for the First District Senate and Assembly candidates, since the state is still reapportioning the district as a result of the census. Votes for them will be taken at a sepate, smaller event, said Donohue.
The crowd was in a joyous mood as county GOP Chairman Michael Donohue introduced the candidates at the event.
Sheriff Gary Schaffer won the nod in an uncontested race for his slot on the ballot.
