AVALON – The CapeGOP Executive Board met Aug. 3, 2016 to formalize the process to fill the coming vacancy on the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders. Republican Freeholder Kristine Gabor will be stepping down in mid-September. Gabor is moving out of the County. Per NJ Election law, the CapeGOP has a right to appointment a Cape May County Republican to fill the remainder of Gabor’s term which ends in December 2017.
“On behalf of the people of Cape May County, I would like to publicly express my gratitude to Freeholder Gabor for her energy, commitment and integrity in her time on the Freeholder Board,” CapeGOP Chairman Marcus Karavan said. “In filling the void that will be created, we remain committed to maintaining a fair and open process, providing equal opportunity to loyal members of our organization.”
Accordingly, the Executive Board adopted a resolution that provides for the submission of letters of intent to the County Chair and the Executive Committee.
A special convention of GOP County Committee members will be held in late September. The voting members will have an opportunity to hear from the candidates and the vote will be taken by secret ballot under the supervision of the County Clerk, Rita Fulginiti. The selected Freeholder is expected to be sworn in at the Sept. 27 Freeholder meeting.
