Cape May Court House — After returning from his military service in Iraq, Sgt. Bob Andrzejczak knew that he wasn’t finished serving South Jersey. Now, he’s building upon his own legacy of service as South Jersey’s newest voice for commonsense reform in the state Assembly in Trenton. “Bob is one of those selfless people who puts the needs of others before himself,” said Senator Jeff Van Drew. “And that’s something he’s proven again and again. He proved in Iraq when he sacrificed his own body in service to our country, and he’s proving it now by standing up for South Jersey. He’s the most humble hero I’ve ever met, and I couldn’t be prouder to have Bob alongside me in the State House.”
“I went into the Army as just a middle-class kid from South Jersey determined to serve country, and I came out knowing that my service, while cut short, was long from finished,” said Andrzejczak. “I may have traded in my fatigues for a suit and tie, but I’m just as determined to fight for what’s right and best for South Jersey.”
While serving in Iraq, a military convoy Bob was traveling in was ambushed by an insurgent grenade attack. In the fight, Bob lost his left leg in the explosion, but that didn’t stop him from making sure his comrades were safe. For his efforts, Bob was awarded the Bronze Star with Valor as well as a Purple Heart. He’s the only veteran-legislator with both medals.
Early in his legislative career, Andrzejczak is already standing up for middle-class South Jersey. He supported Gov. Christie’s budget that was not only balanced, but didn’t raise a penny in new taxes. He’s also put his name to legislation to cap state spending and a bill to make it tougher for Trenton to raise taxes.
Bob’s also taking the lead to protect returning veterans, fighting for job training and educational opportunities so soldiers can transition from the battlefield to the workplace.
“Being South Jersey’s Assemblyman is a great honor, and it’s a job I won’t ever take for granted,” said Andrzejczak. “There’s much we need to do to make South Jersey better and more affordable for the middle class. This is another fight I haven’t been afraid to join.”
