Cape May County Indivisible Plans Protest When President Visits Wildwood

By Press Release

WILDWOOD – Cape May County Indivisible is hosting a protest rally starting at 3 p.m., Jan. 28, outside the Wildwoods Convention Center in response to the first President Donald Trump event to take place in Cape May County.
According to a release, “When hate comes to our backyard, we have a moral obligation to take action and not look away. We stand in solidarity with the historically marginalized communities that this administration is hurting.
Thousands of kids in cages didn’t have the privilege of turning the other cheek,” stated Shayla Woolfort, co-chair of CMC Indivisible. “We stand in peaceful protest to reject the racism, bigotry, violence and corruption of the Trump administration.”
Unified Force
At a time when the Democratic Party is facing its own internal struggles, the grassroots community continues to thrive, and unite.
Indivisible will be joined by progressive groups throughout the state including New Jersey Working Families; ATNJ; NJ 11th For Change; Cooper River Indivisible, CD-2 Progressive Democrats; NJ7 Forward; South Jersey Women for Progressive Change; Collingswood Democratic Committee; South Jersey Progressive Democrats, STAND Central; United Progressive Democrats; NJ-08 for Progress; Hudson County Progressive Alliance; Our Revolution NJ; South Orange Maplewood Action; Indivisible Cranbury; District 4 Coalition for Change; and People for Progress, among others.
“The goal is to act as a unified grassroots force,” stated Cassandra Gatelein, co-chair of CMC Indivisible. “Not everyone is going to like us protesting Trump’s visit and that’s ok. But protest is patriotic – and it’s supposed to make people feel uncomfortable because it’s bringing attention to what needs to be changed. We’re focused on celebrating our diversity -which is what makes us truly great- and building grassroots power to make this country better for all of us.” Gatelein and Woolfort are also focused on safety. “We are actively coordinating with the mayor’s office and local police to ensure that everybody stays safe while exercising their rights.”
Speakers
In addition to being co-hosted by a growing list of over two dozen grassroots organizations, the event has featured speakers including Marie Blistan, president of the New Jersey Education Assocaition as well as Atlantic County Freeholder Ashley Bennett, Will Cunningham, and Amy Kennedy, all of whom are running for Congress in the 2nd District .
CMC Indivisible is a progressive, grassroots collective, organizing for social, racial, reproductive and environmental justice.
