COURT HOUSE – Spending time with my fellow citizens in Middle Township while I campaigned has been both pleasant and educational. I hope you learned about me, I sure learned a lot about you.
I am happy that there has been no name calling or wild accusations in this campaign. That hasn’t always been so in other campaigns, and I know that it turns people off.
I will not send out a sound truck, a banner plane, or make robo-calls. I have told you who I am and what I stand for.
The biggest issue facing township committee is fairness: fairness in the assessment of taxes and fairness throughout the township in the provision of township services. Sure we all pay too much in taxes. But is this the time to sit by and let the police department get smaller? Is this the time to scrimp on maintenance? I do not believe so.
Any time township committee could pull a one year gimmick to zero out taxes. That would mean using up the surplus, the rainy day fund. The Republican on committee for the past two budget years never claimed that this should be done. He worked with the other two members to strike a sensible balance. It is easy to talk irresponsibly on the outside, but disastrous if the majority acts that way.
If elected I will work to budget responsibly in both the short and long term. That will preserve the township’s bond rating and public safety. I won’t allow township roads, buildings, and infrastructure fall apart for lack of care.
I ask for your vote so that I can be of service to every resident of Middle Township. Sincerely, Bill Sturm
