Bergman Seeks Council Reelection

By

OCEAN CITY – Ocean City Councilwoman Karen Bergman is seeking reelection for an at-large seat on City Council. She will hold a North End Community Klatch April 7.
Ocean City voters and interested citizens are invited to the “Conversation and Cookies with Karen” event, hosted by her reelection committee. It is designed to answer questions, address concerns or simply provide an opportunity to meet Bergman. It will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Holloway Room at the Gardens Plaza, 921 Park Place (Park Place and Boardwalk). Light refreshments will be provided.
“I am a representative of the people and believe accessibility and approachability are important aspects that I bring to council,” Bergman stated in a release. “The policy has always been for an open door and letting people connect with their government. We live in the best town in America, and it can become even better if our residents, seasonal visitors and government representatives communicate.”
She feels so strongly about the communication issue that her official ballot slogan is “Connecting the People to the Council Table.”
She is director of catering at the Flanders Hotel.
Bergman has served as council’s representative to the Ocean City Tourism Council, Cape May County Chamber of Commerce and Executive Committee and council representatives to Ocean City Business and Neighborhood Development.
Bergman stated she feels strongly that a woman’s voice is needed on council, and that the panel should not revert to an all-male board.
“It is my belief that we can find a balance between our year-round residents’ needs and those of the seasonal visitors and second home owners,” she stated. “We need to give incentives for families to move here and live year round to keep the town vital and growing, while retaining its traditional charm.”
Bergman is also an advocate for improving the aesthetics of the city’s gateways at Ninth and 34th streets.
“This is a critical election for the town as we move forward and make some major decisions,” she stated. “I bring the experience, accessibility and woman’s perspective to council the people deserve,” she concluded.
