Assembly Candidates Protest Governor’s Visit

By Herald Staff

CLERMONT — Assembly candidates Michael Donohue and Frank Conrad held a protest at 1956 Route 9 and issued the following release coinciding with Gov. Jon S. Corzine’s visit to Cape May County:
As Gov. Jon Corzine brought his wallet-busting Budget Tour to Cape May County on Monday, March 23, the Assembly campaign of Mike Donohue and Frank Conrad has to ask the obvious question: Will Corzine Democrats Nelson Albano and Matt Milam host the Governor, or will they hide from the head of their party as his poll numbers crater?
“The Donohue-Conrad 100 Day Tax Revolt must really have the Corzine Democrats on the run,” Republican Assembly Candidate Mike Donohue says. “We haven’t seen Jon Corzine, Albano and Milam together in Cape May County since protesters were being arrested at the Governor’s Toll-Hike Tour appearance. The voters have had it with the same old tax-and-spend policies that Corzine, Albano and Milam have given us. Money cut from Jersey Fresh, motor vehicle fees increased, property tax rebates eliminated, beach and tourism funding slashed. Looks like Corzine, Albano and Milam want to balance the budget on the backs of South Jersey taxpayers.”
While Jon Corzine is visiting the district of his friends Nelson Albano and Matt Milam, Mike Donohue and Frank Conrad will be heading the Donohue-Conrad 100 Day Tax Revolt next door. Protesters will gather just north of the Corzine meeting on Route 9 in Clermont, rallying against the Democrats’ latest plan to take yet more money from the taxpayers of the First District.
“We’ve seen a new payroll tax pushed through by Corzine and Albano,” Conrad says. “We’ve seen Albano and Milam vote for Corzine’s new 2.5% tax on commercial construction. At every turn, Corzine, Albano and Milam are taking more money from the taxpayers and hurting our economy. Campaigning this weekend, we couldn’t find a single voter that supports the Corzine Democrats. On Monday we will take our Tax Revlot to the streets and protest yet another tax-and-spend budget plan that hurts the middle class.”
