COURT HOUSE — Republican Assembly candidates Mike Donohue and Frank Conrad suggested a link between First District Assemblymen Nelson Albano and Matt Milam and Gov. Jon Corzine in a Wednesday, March 25 press release despite the legislators’ opposition to the governor’s budget proposal.
Below is a copy of the release:
The First District Democrats, fresh off of hiding from Jon Corzine on Monday in Cape May County while the Mike Donohue-Frank Conrad 100 Day Tax Revolt was rallying against the Governor’s latest tax and spend plans, have sent yet another letter to the Governor with weak whimpers of complaint.
“On Monday in Dennis Township, Frank Conrad and I looked Jon Corzine in the eye and told him directly that we are running against him in the First District,” Donohue said. “The First District Democrats were nowhere to be found and now they are now scrambling for a response. We won’t be sending letters to the Governor whining about the budget, we will be on the streets
with the people of the First District demanding an end to the Corzine-Albano-Milam policies that have crippled our economy and hurt our families.”
“Let’s not forget that it was Albano and Milam who proposed the elimination of property tax rebates,” Donohue said. “Let’s not forget that it was Albano and Milam who have stood with the Governor at every turn in support of forcing municipalities to construct government subsidized housing. The Corzine-Albano-Milam approach has bankrupt the state and they can’t hide
from their record of failure. Here is a simple solution to the restore beach and tourism funding: Move money out of Corzine’s $140 million special municipal aid slush fund that sends our tax dollars to mismanged cities in North Jersey.”
“All along the way Albano and Milam have supported Jon Corzine,” says Conrad. “Albano pushed through a brand new payroll tax. Milam voted for a new 2.5% tax on commercial construction. Sorry gentlemen, but the voters of the First District are not buying your too-little-too-late attempt to pretend you’re not with Jon Corzine. These latest proposals are all smoke and mirrors designed to hide the fact that the First District Democrats have voted with Jon Corzine 95% of the time.”
“Obviously, the Donohue-Conrad 100 Day Tax Revolt is already impacting the budget debate in Trenton,” Conrad says. “When Mike Donohue and I are in the Assembly and Chris Christie is Governor we won’t have to hide from the Governor. But here’s the bigger question for Albano and Milam: Are they going to help to elect Chris Christie, or are they going to be out
campaigning for Jon Corzine?”
