ATLANTIC CITY – A sea of blue lined the Atlantic City Boardwalk Dec. 12 as law enforcement officers came to pay their respects to New Jersey State Police (NJSP) Trooper Frankie Williams.
Williams, 31, of Atlantic County, was a member of the 156th State Police Class, which graduated Jan. 29. He was assigned to Port Norris Station.
Police said Williams was responding to an erratic driver complaint Dec. 5 when a vehicle, being driven by Lloyd Rudley, 61, of Elmer, crossed the grass median on Rt. 55 in Millville and struck Williams’ marked troop car head-on.
Rudley was pronounced deceased at the scene. Williams was flown to Cooper University Hospital in Camden where he was pronounced deceased.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
“Frankie Williams always dreamed of becoming a New Jersey State Trooper,” stated Colonel Rick Fuentes, superintendent of NJSP, in a Facebook post. “He achieved that goal and quickly earned the admiration and respect of both his supervisors and peers. Frankie was a kind, caring person who put others before himself. We are devastated and heartbroken by his passing, but he can rest assured that we will embrace his family as they will always remain a part of our State Police family.”
