COURT HOUSE — Middle Township police arrested a transvestite for writing bad checks and then saved his life when he tried to kill himself.
On Feb. 19 at 3:30 p.m, police responded to the CVS pharmacy in the Acme shopping center in Court House for a report of a man dressed in female attire attempting to pass bad checks.
Patrolman Ronald Miller responded to the CVS and detained Daniel Tyce, 27, of Atlantic City, who had warrants from several jurisdictions.
After being transported to police headquarters, Tyce pulled a string out of his sweater, tied it around his neck in an attempt to commit suicide, police said.
According to a release, quick action was taken by officers in the station and Communications Officer Ted Farina to revive Tyce.
Tyce was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for evaluation and subsequently released. He was then lodged in county jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail for writing bad checks.
Lt. John Edwards confirmed for the Herald that Tyce is the same individual who was arrested last January by Vineland police for posing as a female animal doctor. He was charged with practicing medicine without a license and held on $10,000 bail.
According to published reports, Tyce ran an illegal veterinary practice called South Jersey Small Animal Rescue and set up a phony rescue agency that cheated pet owners out of thousands of dollars. In the scheme, Tyce identified himself as Dr. Danielle Smith, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania veterinary school.
There’s more to Tyce’s criminal history.
According to the state Department of Corrections, Tyce served over three years in prison on credit card theft. He was sentenced on Jan. 24, 2003 and released on March 8, 2006 from South Woods State Prison in Bridgeton.
