BRIDGETON – Pinelands Commission member Jane Jannarone, of Vineland, is suing 14 people over negative comments posted on her business Facebook pages regarding her support for the proposed natural-gas pipeline that would run through a federally-protected area, The Press of Atlantic City reports.
Jannarone filed her lawsuit in Cumberland County Superior Court last week. She claims the posts intentionally damaged her real estate business and personal reputation.
The 22-mile pipeline is proposed to run from Cumberland County through Estelle Manor to Beesley’s Point in Upper Township, mostly underground along Routes 49 and 50, according to previous Herald reports.
It will allow the coal-fired B.L. England power plant to switch to natural gas, and remain open.
The lawsuit accuses each defendant of defamation and illegally interfering with Jannarone’s business.
As an appointed state official, Jannarone faces a higher burden of proof in a defamation lawsuit than if she were a private citizen, the report continued.
