NORTH CAPE MAY – At approximately 11:44 a.m. March 17, Lower Township Police Officer Lou Bartleson was flagged down by a local resident, who stated he located an unexploded ordnance in his back yard.
According to a release, an investigation revealed that the resident was digging in his back yard when he unearthed an old unexploded 75mm military projectile.
Additional Lower Township police officers arrived on scene in the area of the 1600 block of Washington Boulevard, in North Cape May. Upon arrival, they immediately set up a safety perimeter. The roadway was then shut down and surrounding residents were evacuated.
Contact was made with the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, Atlantic City Bomb Squad, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, and the USAF EOD unit.
A short time later, a technician group from the Atlantic City Bomb Squad arrived on scene, removed the ordnance, and safely disposed of it in a safe location.
Once the area was deemed safe, area residents were able to return home, and the roadway was reopened.
Cape May – Governor Murphy says he doesn't know anything about the drones and doesn't know what they are doing but he does know that they are not dangerous. Does anyone feel better now?
