On July 10, 18-year-old Delia Marie Cannon, a graduate of Wildwood Catholic High School, was chosen to be the new Miss North Wildwood 2008-09. Cannon’s crowning as the new Miss North Wildwood took place at the Lou Booth Amphitheater immediately before a concert by Shirley Alston Reeves.
Amanda Sarah Cherry was the first runner up. Stephanie Lynn Eckmon was second runner up.
Cannon receives a $500 scholarship, and will represent North Wildwood at all major city functions. Cannon replaces Ashley Furmeister and will serve as Miss North Wildwood for the next 12 months.
Cannon is a student at St. Joseph’s University, and her major is Special Education/Speech Pathology. She is a member of Alpha Phi, a national social sorority at St. Joseph’s. She was in the school play at Wildwood Catholic and earned first honors all four years. She also won the Frank Platt Scholarship at her graduation ceremony, served in the National Honor Society at Wildwood Catholic, and was the boys’ basketball team manager.
She is now active in the campus ministry at St. Joseph’s, and volunteered for Habitat For Humanity during her spring break from college. Cannon has also volunteered throughout the year at a soup kitchen in Camden, and tutors second grade students in West Philadelphia. Cannon is a member of an organization called “Hand In Hand,” which helps mentally and physically challenged students perform daily tasks. Cannon’s parents are Thomas and Sharon Cannon.
The contestants in the pageant went through an extensive interview process on July 9 at Sunset Bay Restaurant in North Wildwood. They were judged on the interview and on general overall appearance.
