MVC Issues Customer Advisory Regarding Phone Scam

By Press Release

TRENTON – The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) has been notified that some customers may have been contacted via phone by persons identifying themselves as representatives of the MVC. These customers are being fraudulently told that their New Jersey (NJ) driving privileges are suspended.
MVC assured the public in a release that unsolicited telephone calls are never made by the MVC to their customers.
When it is necessary to contact a customer regarding their driving or registration privileges or any other MVC-related matter, the MVC sends a letter in the mail. Information regarding any monetary payments that may be required are also mailed to the address that the customer has on file with the MVC. This is one reason why it is important for customers to keep their mailing address up-to-date in MVC records.
Customers are reminded not to make any monetary payments to anyone who calls them on the telephone and says that they represent or work for the NJ MVC. The MVC sends suspension notices through the mail services and does not call for payments.
Customers with questions are advised to call the MVC suspension and restoration information line at (609) 292-7500. Additional information is available at www.njmvc.gov.
