COURT HOUSE – SOUTH means now, not after the traffic light.
Locals are still learning new traffic patterns due to the Garden State Parkway construction project.
They must remain alert that traffic heading south at Crest Haven Road (Exit 11), Stone Harbor Boulevard (Exit 10) and Shell Bay Avenue (Exit 9) must use the new road west of the parkway.
There have been some reported cases of motorists erroneously making a potentially deadly southbound (right) turn into the northbound lane, particularly at Stone Harbor Boulevard intersection.
Middle Township police have cars located at those intersections under, or by the overpasses. In addition orange-and-white barrels have been placed to block access to the wrong lanes and signs are placed that warn “No Right Turn” as well as internationally-recognized signs prohibiting right turns.
On East Mechanic Street, at the parkway, a sign warns South Only, with an arrow pointing right, and the Garden State Parkway logo. However, two-way traffic to Stone Harbor Boulevard is possible from Mechanic Street. Traffic at the boulevard and access lanes is controlled by a traffic signal.
At Shell Bay Avenue, under the overpass, a temporary sign points south to the parkway. Before the access ramp southbound is a parkway sign with an arrow point south.
At that intersection, too, orange-and-white barrels are located and a police car was in place Oct. 31.
