LOWER TOWNSHIP — On Dec. 27, 2016 at approximately 9:33 p.m., Patrolman Anthony Micciche of the Lower Township Police Department conducted a motor vehicle stop of a 2005 blue Ford Crown Victoria sedan for a motor vehicle infraction. The stop was conducted in the area of Bayshore and Warwick Roads in the Villas section of Lower Township.
Upon initial contact with the driver, a strong odor of what was believed to be raw marijuana was detected emanating from the vehicle. The driver was later identified as Matthew R. Boyes, 19, unemployed, from Villas, NJ.
When Mr. Boyes was questioned about the odor, he admitted to possessing marijuana in the vehicle. Mr. Boyes was removed from the vehicle by Patrolman Eric Danze, who had arrived on scene to provide Patrolman Micciche with assistance.
A search was conducted on Boyes’ vehicle, which revealed a clear plastic bag containing a large amount of a green, leafy-like substance believed to be marijuana, on the rear passenger side floor of the vehicle.
Mr. Boyes was arrested on scene and transported to the Lower Township Police Department where he was placed on a summons and charged with Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute, a crime of the third degree. Mr. Boyes was also issued two traffic summonses for operating a motor vehicle while in possession of a controlled and dangerous substance (CDS) and maintenance of lamps. Mr. Boyes was released on his own recognizance, awaiting further adjudication in court.
This incident was investigated by Patrolman Anthony Micciche, Patrolman Eric Danze, and Patrolman James McNulty of Lower Township Police Department.
