CAPE MAY – A masonry company truck driver who was paralyzed after he was struck on the head by a falling crane at a Cape May construction site in 2015 has settled his lawsuit for $17 million, NJ.com reports.
Brian Smith, then 42, also suffered a broken neck.
Smith had to have his spine fused and spent 10 months in rehabilitation, according to the report.
Smith was unloading a shipment of concrete blocks weighing 3,500 pounds when the trolley boom lift on his truck broke in two, hitting him in the head.
In the lawsuit filed in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, Smith sued the boom lift’s manufacturer, USTC; the dealer who sold the boom lift, Garden State Engine & Equipment; and its owner, Kennedy Concrete, the report continued.
