By Other News Source

CAPE MAY POINT – Cape May Point Fire Company No. 1 honored Jeff Idler, who recently saved a drowning man, at their annual dinner Jan. 8, according to a report in The Press of Atlantic City.
Idler, 55, a Pennsylvania resident with a summer home on Lincoln Avenue in Cape May Point, heard screaming coming from the beach July 17. He ran several blocks down the beach and spotted a man 100 yards offshore, trapped in a clockwise eddy, the report states.
Idler jumped in and saved the fisherman, whose name has not been released due to medical privacy laws.
According to the report, Cape May Beach Patrol Lifeguard Lt. Pete Pietras, 46, a resident of Maryland with a home in Cape May Point, also assisted in the rescue, along with Cape May Point Beach Patrol Lt. Ben Swan.
Pietras, a Cape May Point Fireman, presented Idler with a plaque at the Lobster House Restaurant Jan. 8.
