MAC brings music to local students

By On Deck Staff

A total of 654 students from five local schools participated in educational outreach programs provided by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC) in 2008.
MAC has a long-standing commitment to educating area schoolchildren with programs that enhance and expand the classroom experience by bringing history to life. MAC also works to ensure that local schools can take advantage of classroom programs free of charge.
In 2008, MAC presented educational programs students from Our Lady Star of the Sea Regional, West Cape May Elementary, Cape May City Elementary, Maud Abrams, and Richard M. Teitelman.
School programs are presented by museum educators who are experienced interpreters specially trained to work with students.
MAC’s programs are coordinated with many of New Jersey’s Core Curriculum Standards, particularly in the areas of Social Studies, Language Arts, and visual and performing arts. Programs include field trips, classroom and assembly programs, and distance learning.
For more information, or to receive MAC’s education brochure contact Dr. Robert E. Heinly, museum education coordinator at 609-884-5404 or 800-275-4278, Ext. 134, or rheinly@capemaymac.org.
MAC has been certified by the New Jersey Department of Education as a professional development provider.
MAC’s public history programs are funded in part by an operating support grant from the New Jersey Historical Commission in the Department of State.
These free educational programs are also funded by the proceeds from MAC’s 2008, “Under the Stars” Gala, and by a grant from the David and Patricia Atkinson Foundation.
