ERMA – Lower Township Police Department received a report of an unconscious and unresponsive man inside of a residence in the 300 block of Route 9 in the Erma section of Lower Township March 1 at approximately 12:45 p.m.
Special Officer James Collins arrived on scene with the Lower Township Rescue Squad and found the man in an unconscious state. A medical assessment was made on the man who was observed to have shallow breathing. Based on the assessment and information provided by the reporting party on scene, Special Officer Collins administered Naloxone Narcan to the man. This resulted in bringing the man out of his unresponsive state. He was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for additional treatment.
All officers with the Lower Township Police Department have been trained in the administration of Naloxone Narcan, the counteracting medicine used to treat subjects that are in an unconscious, unresponsive state due to drug use.
