LOWER- 6-21-2006

School’s out for summer. Isn’t that a song?
Well, it’s also the reality here. Seniors at Lower Cape May Regional finished the year off with a great Baccalaureate program June 13 and a soggy but successful graduation ceremony June 14.
The day before commencement the high school auditorium was filled with song, dance and poetry as members of the senior class said farewell to classmates in their own special way.
The Baccalaureate program was impressive because of the individual efforts shown, but also because it was a program that came together because of the students involved, and, of course, with help from the music and theatre department staff.
I have to say that despite the fact that about the only time it rained last Wednesday was during the commencement exercise at the high school, not only did everyone tough it out, no one’s enthusiasm seemed to be daunted by the drippy weather.
Congratulations to all students and parents that had a part in that day.
I’m proud to count myself among you as the parent of a daughter in the class of 2006.

If you missed the pancake breakfast at the Cape May Beach Property Owners Association clubhouse last Saturday, don’t despair.
There will be breakfast again on July 15 and Aug. 19 from 8 to 10 a.m.
It’s all you can eat for just $5 for adults and $3 for kids under 12.
The menu always includes pancakes, sausage, coffee, orange juice, and milk.
The breakfasts also continue after summer on Sept. 16, Oct. 21, Nov. 18, and Dec. 16 so mark your calendar accordingly.
Also bigger and better than last year, the association will present its Whale of a Day festival July 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the clubhouse and along Club House Drive.
So remember you’ll have to drive around that area that day.
There are always lots to see and eat and fun things for kids to do. Drive over and stroll around in one of the nicest areas in the township – you can’t beat some of our tree-lined streets.
Rain day for the event is July 2 – same time, same place.

With children home from school remember that the library has lots to keep them occupied and the Center for Community Arts will be running a free arts program for kids in the township again this summer.
A day at the county zoo is also free and you can pack a lunch or just go have a picnic at the bay.
Introduce your kids to something new in the county this summer; you might be surprised to find out what’s out there yourself.
