There was a great thunderstorm in my neighborhood last night.
I’m hoping it cleared the air of all that stinking pollen. Everybody’s allergic this year, what’s the world coming to?

St. Barnabas by the Bay is having a blood drive May 31 from 1:30 – 7:30 p.m. You can start calling Marcie Farrell at 889-0958 tomorrow to schedule a time to give blood.
Remember you have until May 23 to order hoagies from the ladies of the church for pick-up May 27, just in time for lunch for your holiday guests. Call 886-5960 or 886-2625.
The church is located at 13 West Bates Ave. in the Villas.

No need to make breakfast Saturday morning, Cape May Beach Property Owners Association will be hosting its monthly pancake breakfast at the clubhouse, on Club House Drive in Townbank, of course.

Mark your calendar for June 3. That’s the annual strawberry festival at Cold Spring Presbyterian Church.
More details to come.

Hey, just about two more weeks and that recycling truck will be picking up cans, bottles, and paper every week until September 22.
You won’t have to peak and see what cans your neighbors have pulled to the curb to see what week it is for a while.
I still guess wrong sometimes but it’s part of my exercise routine to move garbage cans once a week, unless I can get my kids to do it.

The township’s Chamber of Commerce pulled off its first networking meeting with aplomb on May 11. About 62 business folks turned out for an evening of chatting and great food at Marie Nicole’s, one of our township’s restaurants.
President Linda Williams told me the chamber now has around 130 members and is growing. In attendance at the event were several new members and some prospective members.
Door prizes were given away and members Rhonda and Dan Keen were given an award for choosing the new name for the chamber’s newsletter – it’s the “Communicator.”
Williams said she wanted to thank John Linnington, of the Title Company of New Jersey for sponsoring the event and Jim Barnabei, of Marie Nicole’s for being a great host.
The chamber still has some copies of its 2006 Business Directory available. It’s a great resource for township information.
The chamber meets every second Thursday of the month for lunch at 12:30 p.m. at a different member restaurant in the township.
If you want to contact the chamber call 884-7703 or e-mail lowertownshipchamberofcommerce@hotmail.com.

The planning board meets tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in the meeting room of township hall.

Have a great week and remember, if you are faxing things to the Herald’s main office about events in the township, if I get them two weeks before the event, they will surely make this column. Especially if you put my name on it.
Also call or fax me at the number above or e-mail me at cmcote40@hotmail.com.
