Looking for Miss North Wildwood contestants

By On Deck Staff

Pageant coordinators in North Wildwood are currently seeking applications from contestants who would like to be part of the 12th annual Miss North Wildwood Pageant this summer.
A new Miss North Wildwood 2008-09 will be crowned on July 10, at the Lou Booth Theater.
“This is an event that’s very important to North Wildwood,” said Joe Quattrone, North Wildwood Events Coordinator. “Miss North Wildwood is all about honoring local women in our region, and to help them reach their goals with a fun, educational event that also provides the winner with scholarship money.”
There are a few rules that the candidates must follow:
• Contestants must have attained their 16th birthday and not yet attained their 21st birthday as of July 8, 2008.
• Winner must be available to participate in North Wildwood’s parades observing Memorial Day, July Fourth, Labor Day, and the Irish Festival, along with other city special events.
Pageant organizers also note that participants in the pageant do not have to reside in North Wildwood. The residency requirements state that the participant has to live in Cape May County at least three months out of the calendar year.
Entrants will be asked to visit a special Judge’s Interview and Luncheon at Sunset Bay Restaurant, bayside on North Wildwood Boulevard in North Wildwood on Wednesday, July 9, at 10 a.m.
The contestants will be asked a series of questions, and final judging will be based on the interview, and general appearance. The winner of the Miss North Wildwood Pageant will receive $500 in scholarship funding, a crown, and a trophy.
The entry deadline is July 3. Some other rules apply for the pageant.
“City leaders and the business community really step up each year and turn the Miss North Wildwood Pageant into a very special event for young women from our area,” Quattrone said.
“We’re always proud to crown a new Miss North Wildwood every year, and provide her with some scholarship funding. And we’re also proud to have that individual serve as the ambassador to our city for the entire year.”
North Wildwood’s outgoing pageant winner is Ashley Furmeister.
“Ashley has been a terrific Miss North Wildwood,” Quattrone said. “She has represented the city very well, and we’ve been proud to call her our Miss North Wildwood over the past 11 months.”
More details about the pageant and application forms can be obtained by calling Pat Cafiero at 609-408-4422 or Peg Q. at 609-780-5746.
