King Center a busy place

By On Deck Staff

The Martin Luther King Center, 207 W. Main St., Whitesboro, will be the site of many community activities and programs this fall.
The Homework Club is for students grades K through 12, every Monday through Thursday from 3:30 -5 p.m.
It’s an education, sports, craft, arts, cooking, and computer program, so kids can get their homework checked or participate in many other activities. You’ll need a letter of permission from the school to attend.
Karate classes are held every Monday and Wednesday, and there is soul linedancing on Thursdays from 6-8:30 p.m.
New programs being introduced will be yoga on Friday and Saturdays for all ages, boot camp exercise, cooking class for kids, and computer class for adults.
On Sundays from 3-7 p.m., there’s study hall, so students can complete their homework, or catch the game on big screen TV.
In November, the center presents a girls circle/boys council for ages 9-14.
The focus, according to center director Robert Matthews, is to prevent risky behavior and help students form an attachment to school. Adult facilitators will be in attendance.
Basketball tryouts for grades 3-8 will be held Oct. 28 and Nov. 2.
There is open gym every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-8:30 p.m., and on Saturday from 6-10 p.m.
