SOUTH DENNIS – Station 18 units, along with Belleplain Emergency Corp. and New Jersey State Police were dispatched to a possible water rescue at the Beaver Dam Boat Ramp in South Dennis at approximately 2:40 p.m. May 8.
According to a post on Dennis Volunteer Fire Company’s Facebook page, Rescue 1872 with Marine 18, and Engine 1820 responded to the scene, where first arriving officers found a subject stranded and clinging to an overturned kayak in rough currents several hundred yards from the boat ramp. The subject was attempting to reach the shoreline nearby.
Marine 18 was launched with a crew of three firefighters in cold water rescue suits. As firefighters approached, the subject was able to reach the shoreline after abandoning the kayak. Once firefighters ensured the subject was safe on the shoreline, they towed the capsized kayak back to the boat dock. The occupant was checked by Belleplain EMTs and found to be uninjured, according to the post.
