SWAINTON – The Cape May County Zoo is seeking interns for its 2010 Summer Zookeeper Intern Program. Applicants accepted in the program will gain experience working with exotic zoo animals.
Interns will shadow a zookeeper and rotate through each area of the zoo. Interns will learn about basic husbandry, diets, exhibit design and repair, medical care, and more! Each intern will design and complete an approved project of their choosing.
The program is an unpaid educational internship and preference will be given to science majors enrolled in a Bachelor Degree program. The program is scheduled to run for a minimum of six weeks from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, however, times and days are flexible. Additionally, working in a zoo can be a physical job, applicants should be sure that they are capable of doing that type of work.
Interested applicants are asked to fill out a Cape May County Employment application found at capemaycountygov.net and in the space marked “Positions applied for” fill in “2010 Summer Zookeeper Intern” and mail it, along with a resume to the Cape May County Zoo, Attn: Dr. Alex Ernst, 4 Moore Road – DN 801, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210.
