COURT HOUSE – Work is currently underway in Middle Township on several projects that will improve the Township’s compliance with the American with Disabilities Act. The Township is partnering grant funding being made available by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs with a generous donation to improve access to Township buildings and providing additional recreation opportunities for residents and visitors.
“We are thrilled that this work is being performed in the Township at several key locations”, said Middle Township Mayor Tim Donohue. “These ADA-compliant improvements are valuable and necessary and provide tremendous financial relief to the taxpayers of the Township”.
Funding for the improvements throughout the Township was made possible by a grant from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, Division of Housing and Community Resources, Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program in the amount of $268,182. Funding was awarded to Middle Township via an announcement made jointly by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and by NJDCA Commissioner Richard Constable in December, 2012.
To compliment this grant from the State of New Jersey, Middle Township’s partnership with Gametime, a playground equipment supplier, resulted in a credit for local matching dollars that will save Middle Township over $29,000 for new ADA-compliant playground equipment. The equipment will be installed by the Middle Township Department of Public Works at the Clarence Davies Sports Complex in Goshen. The playground will be located adjacent to the parking lot for easy access and will include concrete sidewalks for easy travel; ADA-compliant picnic tables will also be added at the Complex.
In addition to the new playground and equipment, power assisted door actuators, thresholds, and handles are being installed inside the Township’s courtroom, municipal building entrances, and at the Clarence Davies Sports Complex. An ADA-compliant ramp will be installed inside the court room along with a handicapped accessible table and chairs. ADA-compliant restrooms are being added at the Middle Township Construction Office.
The general contractor for the project, R. Maxwell Construction, has assured the Township that its work will not interfere with regular business. Weekly updates will be delivered to Township Administrator Connie Mahon noting progress of the project.
