WOODBINE – Woodbine Borough Council met Jan. 21. Mayor William Pikolycky indicated he had been notified by Freeholder Leonard Desiderio that Woodbine had been eliminated from the sign at Exit 17 on Garden State Parkway.
Pikolycky said he had followed up and was advised that no more than two names could be on a sign and thus Woodbine would have its own sign.
Pikolycky announced that U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) had nominated Woodbine resident Nicholas Schalek for the Naval Academy.
Pikolycky announced Atlantic City Electric’s contractor will be canvassing the area and doing extensive pruning and maintenance which will include trimming around the utility lines.
“Please let’s get in touch with our school and have them advise us if there are any issues that need work. By the way, while they are working on Jefferson Avenue they will address some of the dead branches on the side they are trimming as well,” he explained.
On a pending item, that of the property at 322 Washington Ave., Borough Solicitor Richard Tonetta indicated a subordination of mortgage had been requested as the home must be repurchased by the developer per a court order. “I’ve reviewed the history of the Neighborhood Stabilization Program Grant by which this property had been purchased, redeveloped and sold. In order to purchase funds must be borrowed which requires the subordination. I’m assured subordination would not change the borough’s current position. The property will still be deed restricted and will be resold to an individual who meets the qualifications per the program,” Tonetta clarified.
Borough engineer Bruce Graham reported on the sewer study he has been reviewing for alternatives and cost estimates.
Graham talked about the Open Space application noting that the property being requested for farmland preservation is not on the designated list of agricultural properties.
“The county board will look at the application and a public hearing is to be held Jan. 25,” he said.” “The planning/zoning board is the appropriate entity to review and make recommendations to the council. I have some concern in regard to potentially jeopardizing future funding and I’m not sure if they will postpone the hearing.”
Pikolycky indicated the Open Space map had pictured the decrease in the delineations.
“It’s been reviewed and I was advised it was considered a growth area and would no longer be eligible as open space. However, the property was originally in there.”
It was ultimately determined Pikolycky and Graham will meet to further review.
