WOODBINE – The Borough of Woodbine recently submitted an application for $400,000 to the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) to purchase a new 1,000-gallon fire pumper truck for the Woodbine Volunteer Fire Department (WVFD), announced Mayor William Pikolycky today.
“The WVFD’s current pumper truck is over twenty years old,” said Mayor Pikolycky. “Given that the WVFD covers more than 8 square miles between its first-due and mutual aid response areas, it is critical that our volunteer firefighters have a reliable pumper that conforms with National Fire Protection Act standards and recommendations.”
The application was made to DCA’s Small Cities Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program – an extremely competitive funding opportunity that provides, among other things, grants to develop or improve public facilities and infrastructure that primarily benefit low-income persons.
“Woodbine has been the recipient of many Small Cities awards over the years, and we are appreciative of DCA’s support.” Mayor Pikolycky concluded. “We are hopeful that the Department will favorably review this application as the Borough seeks to protect people and property through the purchase of a new fire truck.”
