WOODBINE — Mayor William Pikolycky has announced that the Borough of Woodbine made two supplemental funding applications to the Federal Aviation Administration for improvement projects at the Woodbine Municipal Airport as well as an additional application to the New Jersey Department of Transportation Airport Improvement Program, for a total of $3.5 million in funding requests.
According to a release, the first FAA application, for which funding in the amount of $2.7 million is requested, consist of the rehabilitation of the existing Taxiway B to include the following: repair of cracks, asphalt heaving repairs, milling of existing bituminous pavement, overlay of P-401 bituminous pavement, taxiway markings, and upgrade of the existing edge lights to LED and upgrades of the existing signage. The rehabilitation is for approximately 3,000’ by 35’ of the existing Taxiway B
The second FAA application, for which $615,227 is requested, consists of the construction of a new connecting taxiway from Runway 19 End to Taxiway B to include the following: full depth excavation, new subbase course, new base course and new surface course of P-401HMA, taxiway markings, new LED edge lights and the demolition of the existing RW 19 to Taxiway B connection. The construction is approximately 500’ by 35’ connecting TW B to RW 19 End.
The third application is to the NJDOT, in the amount of $142,318, is for design services only for the proposed Transient Apron project. The transient apron will provide transient travelers with additional parking positions. This will provide three tie-down positions to replace the five tie-down positions to be removed during the construction of the helicopter apron. The configuration of the new apron area will provide 25,000 sq ft of new pavement, allowing pilots to operate efficiently and safely during fueling and parking.
“I would like to thank the FAA and the NJDOT for the opportunity to apply for these important projects that would maintain the condition and that would bring the latest FAA standards to the airport,” added Pikolycky.
“These necessary improvements would enhance the safe operation at the airport, increase capacity and would indirectly bring in new businesses to the borough,” he concluded.
