Woodbine’s Saduk Contracted for 4-H Fair

By Al Campbell

CREST HAVEN — With 4-H Fair looming in July, freeholders on Tue., April 24 approved an agreement with Carol Saduk to ensure the popular annual event takes place.
The 2011 fair was the last for retired 4-H Agent Betty Jean Webersinn. Her absence left a void that has yet to be filled. The agreement is with Saduk as 4-H Youth Development Program Consultant. She will work with 4-H staff and volunteers to “assist in completing tasks necessary to insure a successful 4-H fair,” according to the resolution unanimously approved by the board.
The agreement will be in force from May 1 to July 31. The fair has historically been held the third week of July, Thursday through Saturday.
Saduk will receive $850 per month, a total of $2.550. Saduk, of Woodbine, was hired according to rationale in a contract proposal since, “The annual Cape May County 4-H Fair is an extremely labor intensive effort that results in positive feedback from the community, visitors to the area and most importantly, from our 4-H youth and volunteers. It is also the primary fundraiser for both the Cape May County 4-H Foundation, Inc., and the Cape May County Board of Agriculture. As the county 4-H Youth Development Program is currently in the process of hiring a new county 4-H agent, additional assistant is needed to insure a successful and positive fair experience for all.”
“The consultant will assume primary responsibility for certain fair tasks as outlined below and others assigned by the acting county agent.” Those responsibilities include:
* Attending planning meetings with 4-H program staff and volunteers.
* Coordinating project entry procedures and guidelines, project entries and judging, volunteer judge recruitment and orientation and record book judging for Lockwood 4-H Youth Center.
* Coordinate 4-H events and special exhibits including children’s pet show and special club demonstrations, 4-H participation in the parade and opening ceremonies, the cavalcade of winners, ribbon and trophy orders and 4-H action activities.
* Coordinate volunteer recruitment and management for the 4-H Fair general information booth, refreshment stand, stage crew, life on the farm and docents for Lockwood center.
* Distribute fair brochures
* Send special letters of invitation as needed.
* Send thank you letters as needed.
* Promote adult and youth participation in the overall Rutgers Cooperative Extension-4-H Youth Development program.
Saduk is a long-time 4-H volunteer, and possesses experience, organizational skills, and other criteria the board deemed necessary to undertake the task. The document was signed by Saduk and Marilou Rochford, County Extension Department Head.
The contract may be terminated with a 14-day written notice from either party.
