Woodbine Requests $300,000 in Discretionary Aid Funding

By Press Release

WOODBINE — The Borough of Woodbine made application to the New Jersey Department of Transportation for discretionary aid funding in the amount of $300,000 to supplement funds previously received from Federal Emergency Management Administration and from the New Jersey Department of Community Affair’s Small Cities program for drainage related reconstruction on various Borough roads.
The Borough recently received bids on this project with the low bid coming in at $1,461,731. As this bid exceeded the available construction budget by almost $300,000 the current bids were rejected due to insufficient funds available.
Since FEMA expects the Borough to mitigate the drainage problem that was originally identified in its entirety, reducing the project scope is not a viable solution.
The Borough is requesting consideration for discretionary aid funding from the New Jersey Department of Transportation to allow this project to move forward. This money, if approved, will go into a much needed improvement for the Borough that will include transportation related components including roadway paving; drainage improvements that will extend pavement life; and the reduction of safety issues attributed to flooding of the roads due to inadequate or non-existent drainage infrastructure.
“We are hopeful that NJDOT will receive this request as a viable way to mitigate the gap in funding needed to complete this long-planned and essential project,” concluded Mayor Pikolycky.
