Woodbine Receives $400,000 Grant for Water Tower Renovation

By Press Release

WOODBINE – The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs Public Facilities 2013 Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program has awarded the Borough of Woodbine a grant in the amount of $400,000 fund the renovation of the Woodbine Municipal Utilities (WMUA) Water Tower Renovation Project.
This work is being done pursuant to an elevated tank study done to assess the condition of the Borough’s only water tower, which was built in 1982.
After temporarily relocating the telecommunications antennas presently on the tower, the work to be done will include: replacement of anti bird-roosting devices; sediment removal and disposal; reconstruction/replacement of the 30-foot riser manhole as well as installation of a new safety climbing system, a new ladder guard, and cable messenger pipes.
In addition, structural repairs will be made to the existing catwalk and brackets. The final work will be the complete cleaning, preparation and painting of the interior and exterior of the tower including application of the FAA Warning Roof Coating.
“We thank NJDCA for awarding us this funding in order to pro-actively renovate all aspects of our community water tower so as to better serve the health, safety, and welfare of our residents and businesses,” added Mayor Pikolycky. “We are grateful that this will allow the WMUA to avoid burdening the rate payers with the expense of this renovation. This comes on the heels of a recent $300,000 NJDOT grant. Christmas has come early for the Borough of Woodbine.”
