WOODBINE – The Borough of Woodbine has been awarded $400,000 from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) which will be used to purchasea new 1,000-gallon fire pumper truck for the Woodbine Volunteer Fire Department (WVFD), announced Mayor William Pikolycky.
“Although Woodbine is a small community, the WFVD is charged with protecting a large amount of personal property and critical infrastructure in its first-due and mutual aid area,” Mayor Pikolycky said. “As a result, it is critical that our firefighters have the modern equipment they need to do their jobs safely and efficiently.”
At 22 years old, the existing pumper is beyond its normal life expectancy and does not have the same National Fire Protection Act-recommended safety features as contemporary trucks, noted Mayor Pikolycky. “Using a pumper truck that is over 20 years old is a challenge could compromise public and firefighter safety alike,” he stated. “This award from DCA will bring needed equipment and peace of mind to the firefighters of the WVFD as well as to the community.”
