“I want everybody to know that I am seeking to understand the decisions made” regarding the public safety complex, Sheehan said. She acknowledged that both a new firehouse and police department facility are needed, but said the city should “take our time” to ensure that mistakes are not made. Sheehan also called for greater public input into the decisions.
Police Chief Anthony Marino expressed concern that the loss of the Advisory Committee chair, the late Jerry Gaffney, not allow the process “to go off the rails.” Marino spoke of the work done by the committee that brought the city “to the point where we should be moving forward.” He urged the city not to let time run out on recently solicited proposals for an architectural firm to begin work on the project.
