WILDWOOD – City Commissioners announced their intention to hold a special meeting 2 p.m. Fri., Nov. 2 to discuss the possibility of rescinding three ordinances the city already approved to bring an ice skating rink to Pacific Avenue.
According to Municipal Solicitor Marc Karavan, the meeting is being held to allow the three commissioners the opportunity to discuss the city’s Oct. 26 appearance before Superior Court Judge Raymond Batten.
A group of city residents opposing the city’s push to bring an ice rink to Pacific Avenue, presented petitions challenging the city and asking the construction of the rink be put on a referendum and presented to voters.
The proposed three ordinances slated for introduction and first reading, call for rescinding an ordinance allowing the bond of $1.32 million; an ordinance authorizing the purchase of real property at 3400 Pacific Ave.; and an ordinance authorizing the lease of 4101 Boardwalk.
“We want to have an opportunity to discuss what happened last Friday with the commissioners and let them reach a decision as to how they want to proceed,” said Karavan. He said only Commissioner Pete Byron was in Batten’s courtroom on Oct. 26.
The solicitor said he was not sure if the three commissioners would take no action or may proceed to act on the ordinances.
The city is due back in Batten’s courtroom Mon., Nov. 5 at 10 a.m.
“We wanted to have an opportunity to talk it over with them and let them see what they wanted to do,” said Karavan.
Karavan said during the Nov. 2 meeting, Commissioners will discuss the matter in executive session.
“If we do end up taking action, there will be some public comment.
