Wildwood to End Sandy-Related Debris Collection

By Deborah McGuire

WILDWOOD – Some property owners will find themselves without a place to put storm damaged materials as they finish their cleanup from Hurricane Sandy. According to Mayor Ernest Troiano, as of Nov. 14, the city will no longer be picking up debris from properties.
Troiano said some residents are unloading their properties of construction debris not related to storm cleanup.
“The city of Wildwood will not pick up construction debris,” the mayor announced during the Nov. 7 Board of Commissioners’ meeting.
According to the mayor, residents living in second floor properties are placing construction debris out at the curb for pick up.
“It’s unfortunate for those who have been harmed by the storm, but some people are taking advantage of property unnecessarily,” said Troiano.
He noted in addition to owners of second floor properties that were not damaged by Sandy’s flooding, some residents are placing construction debris in front of unoccupied properties for collection by city workers.
“I am asking that in order to stop that, that the city will no longer pick up those materials after next Wednesday (Nov. 14).
